Before you read the rest of this letter, I want to encourage you to get out your calendar and prepare to mark lots of important dates. October is a month filled with wonderful activities and opportunities at Smoke Rise Baptist Church.
World Communion Sunday, October 1—Christians from around the world join together in the celebration of World Communion Sunday; remembering the Christ that unites us is bigger than any denominations or differences that may divide us. This year, Danny Vancil and the Sanctuary Choir will be leading us in worship, and I will be preaching, then we will gather together around God’s table.
Missions Sunday, October 15—Missions lies at the heart of our congregational identity. As Christians, we are called by God to be on mission in our world, sharing love and grace with others. This year, we are excited to welcome our good friend and ministry partner the Rev. John Morris, Executive Director of God’s Appalachian Partnership, to lead us in worship. This will be a wonderful Sunday to celebrate what God has done and to dream together of what God is calling us to do.
Octoberfest on Wednesday, October 25—Octoberfest is first and foremost an outreach to our congregation and community. We extend invitation to young and old to enjoy good food, good fellowship, and great fun. Let me encourage you not only to come, but also to become a Minister of Hospitality extending gracious welcome to all you encounter. Please take the time to invite someone. Actually, invite everyone.
All Saints Day on Sunday, November 5—On this special Sunday, we remember those who have passed from this world into God’s presence. We give thanks to God for this great cloud of witnesses, friends and family, mothers and fathers, husbands and wives. This year, I am extremely excited to announce that our Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Dr. J. Truett Gannon will be preaching for our All Saints Celebration.
October is going to be an amazing month. Consider this a personal invitation from your Pastor.
Don’t miss a moment.
