Martha Stearns Marshall Sunday

Since 2007, many Baptist churches have participated in Martha Stearns Marshall Sunday, affirming and celebrating Baptist women in ministry.  Martha Stearns Marshall is an eighteenth-century Baptist preacher.  Along with her husband Daniel, Martha would offer eloquent prayers and powerful sermons during her ministry among Virginia, North Carolina,
and Georgia Baptist. The Martha Stearns Marshal l event, named in her honor, has been a deeply significant source of joy and discovery for many women and churches.

At Smoke Rise, we traditionally celebrate Martha Stearns Marshall Sunday on the 1st Sunday of February. This Sunday affirms our congregational conviction that God calls men and women to preach, to teach, to lead, and to serve.
