Choir & Orchestra Maundy-Thursday Communion with Tenebrae 4/2

Behold-the-Darkness

Thursday, April 2, 2015
7:00pm • Sanctuary

Presented by the Sanctuary Choir and Chamber Orchestra
Music by Benjamin Harlan

Maundy (when taken from the Latin mandatum)
means mandate or command.

It was during the last supper with his disciples that Jesus said, “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)

Tenebrae (Latin for “Darkness” or “Shadows”):  is the gradual extinguishing of candles while a series of readings recited. In our service, each reading will be taken from the four Gospels.
