On February 27th, the first members of the Smoke Rise Family Mission Team will begin the trek to Montreat to prepare for their annual trip. While there, the mission team will work at the Irene Wortham Center. The Center is a center for persons with Development Disabilities in Asheville, NC. While there, we will clean their preschool area and create crafts for the residents. The team also hopes to host a lunch for the residents that are there over the weekend.
In preparation for the trip, the team has fundraised through visiting Sunday School classes and hosting a Parents Day Out for the community. They have also invited Rebekah Edmonds (Associate Director of Residential Services for Developmental Disabilities Ministries, DDM) to lead the team training on February 15th during the Sunday School hour.
This trip will be a wonderful entry point for families at Smoke Rise to begin experiencing missions outside of the congregations walls. We are looking forward to learning through experience and connecting with one another.
