They Walk Among Us: Veterans of World War II

WWII-VetsBy David Champa

Recently we had the opportunity to spend time with veterans of World War II who are members of Smoke Rise. It was a special opportunity to hear their stories and of their dedication to our country. Red Morgan, M.H. Belcher and Robert Woodyard, each from rural Georgia communities, stepped to the front of the line when their nation called for their service. Red and Robert spent their service at sea in the Navy and M.H. trained as a bombardier in the Army Air Corps. None mentioned fear or reservations about their decision to enlist yet each was happy to return to Georgia and a normal life after the war.

Each of our veterans have stories to share. November 11th is veterans day. If you see one of these special gentlemen, or other Smoke Rise vets in church, speak to them; ask them about their service and how God used those experiences in their spiritual journey.
